The definition of the crossover is fairly straight forward: an SUV-like design on a sedan's platform. The combination seeks to fit the driving dynamics of a larger car with the fuel economy of a sedan. When it comes to the folks at Honda, however, they'd like to push the envelope just a bit further.
Introducing the new Vezel, a new Honda CUV that they unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last month. Based on the Fit, the car will offer quite a bit of interior room, great fuel economy, and driving dynamics when it's launched.
Design-wise, it's quite a looker. The roofline tapers backwards, giving the vehicle a look of an auto that attacks the wind head-on, and then lets it roll off. While it looks as if it was designed to sit low on the road, its elevated profile gives it added presence. Definitely a home run design job by Honda, in our opinions.
The model unveiled at Tokyo is soon to hit dealerships in Japan, where it will be offered with both hybrid and gasoline powertrains. The petrol mill will be a 1.5-L turbocharged VTEC, and we don't yet know the specs on the motor.
The Vezel will be released in Japan later this month, and in 2015 in Europe. We expect it to make it to the U.S. in time for the 2016 model year.
If that's too long to wait, you can come by Fox Honda and try out one of the other stylish crossovers we offer, such as the CR-V. You can also drop by our Grand Rapids, MI dealership with any other questions you may have about the research process.
